Jack and Kevin decided to go with the motorboat after lunch. The sea was restless, and waves were so big, but they didn’t care. In fact, that made the adventure more exciting.
“Okay, I’m ready. We can go, are you sure that you know how to drive it?” Asked Jack.
“Yeah, don’t worry, bro. My father taught me and Fred last summer. And of course, he was better and then he was making fun of me. He is so annoying! We won’t go far from the coast. We’ll do circles around the marine.”
They had to walk fifteen minutes to the marine. When they came, they jumped into the motorboat and Kevin started to drive.
“You are the only one who stayed with me.” Said Jack sadly.
“Nick and Fred are idiots. We are dreamers. We can do it. Just the two of us. We can be the world’s most popular rock duo. I know we can.” Said Kevin enthusiastically.
“Thank you for staying with me, anyway.” Said Jack.
“Don’t worry. I am just running with you. Like in your song, I actually like it.” Said Kevin.
“Fred and Nick don’t.” Said Jack.
“Who cares for them!” Said Kevin.
As they were speaking the waves become bigger and bigger.
“The waves are strong… maybe we should go back?” Asked Jack.
“No, the motorboat can stand it, don’t worry!” Replied Kevin.
“They think we are running from responsibility.” Said Jack.
“No, we don’t. We are running to become rockers. Just like you said in your song, “Run with me”: ‘I’m not running from you; I’m running to get there before you.'” Answered Kevin.
“I’m so happy you quoted me.” Said Jack proudly. “And just like in that song, we are faster if we are together and running together.” Added Jack.
Jack started to sing “Run with me”. As he started singing, he started to imagine himself and Kevin at the stage playing that song in front of thousands of people.
After a while he was singing another song and felling down in his own world so deeply that he couldn’t notice anything around him. After a few minutes Kevin started to shout.
“Hey, Jack! Put on the life jacket! The waves are too strong! I’ll try to avoid them as much as I can, but put on the life jacket!” As he said it, he put another one on himself.
Jack couldn’t hear him, he was in his own world, singing in front of the audience.
“Thank you very much you are the greatest audience ever!” Said Jack in his head.
“Jack! Put on that life jacket!” Said Kevin in fear.
One wave was so strong that they were completely wet after it.
“Oh, it seems the rain is starting.” Said Jack in front of the audience. “It’s a sign to finish this concert.”
The waves were so strong and flipped the motorboat. They were under the Ocean for a little longer than a minute, then Kevin emerged the surface and took a deep breath.
“Jack! Jack! Where are you?!”
Kevin took a deep breath and went to find Jack under the Ocean. He didn’t find him. He took a deep breath again and started looking for him, but nothing. The third time he tried, was the lucky time. He found Jack and brought him to the surface.
“Jack! Jack! Are you okay?! Jack!”
Kevin could barely hold Jack because of waves. Jack was unconscionable but, in his head, he still was at the stage.
“The rain is much bigger now; we really should finish this.” Said Jack in his head.
“Jack! Jack!” Kevin was shouting and slapping Jack to woke him up.
As Kevin slapping him, Jack imagining that sound as an applause of the audience.
“Thank you so much, thank you!” Said Jack in front of his loyal fans.
“Jack! Jack!” Kevin started to swim pulling Jack with him.
Ten minutes later they were at the marine. Kevin tried to wake up Jack. But it was too late. Jack was dead. Kevin began to cry. He blamed himself for that. Jack was laying peacefully; he was happy when he died.
A few days later was Jack’s funeral. Kevin, Fred and Nick singed there “Run with me”. They knew Jack would love it. And on Jack’s grave was written “I’m not running from you; I’m running to get there before you.” But no matter how fast you can run. The snail is the snail and life is always faster. Especially if death runs with life.
THE END
